Towards in situ U–Pb dating of dolomite

Abstract. Recent U–Pb dating by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has demonstrated that reasonable precision (3 %–10 %, 2σ) can be achieved for high-resolution of texturally distinct calcite phases. Absolute dolomite, which biostratigraphy and traditional techniques are very limited, remains challenging, although it may resolve many fundamental questions related to the timing mineral-rock formation syngenetic, diagenesis, hydrothermal, epigenetic processes. In this study we explore possibility dolomitic rocks via recent LA-ICP-MS developed calcite.
